Why Delta?

Delta (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is an advanced TEFL/TESOL qualification for experienced teachers who wish to deepen their knowledge and understanding of English language teaching.

Delta is an advanced blend of theory and practice that provides ELT professionals with the necessary tools to develop their career to the fullest and is currently accredited in the UK by the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) at Level 7, which equates to Master´s level in terms of content. Delta is a 60-credit Cambridge teaching award.

Once the qualification is obtained, teachers are ready to progress their career into more senior roles such as teacher trainer, materials writer or director of studies.

What is the structure of the Delta?

There are three Delta modules, all of which include a focus on theory and practice. Each module has a 20-credit value.

  • Module 1 - Understanding language, methodology and resources for teaching
Evaluation: Written exam of two 90-minute papers. The exam is externally marked by Cambridge.
Preparation: Attending a preparation course at a Cambridge Assessment English Authorised Centre such as International House Lima.
  • Module 2 – Developing professional practice
Evaluation Portfolio of coursework, including written assignments and assessed teaching practice. The course is locally and externally assessed by Cambridge.
Preparation: Doing a Delta Module Two course at a Cambridge Assessment English Authorised Centre such as International House Lima.
Before starting the course, it is suggested that the candidates do Delta Module One and read extensively about methods in teaching English that will help them reflect on their strengths and weaknesses. Observing colleagues teach to experience new techniques, materials and resources is also a good idea.
  • Module 3 – ELT Specialism
Evaluation Extended written assignment of 4000 – 4500 words, focusing on a specialist area of teaching chosen by the candidate (e.g. teaching English for academic purposes, exam classes, young learners, etc.). The assignment is externally assessed by Cambridge.
Preparation: Attending a preparation course at a Cambridge Assessment English Authorised Centre such as International House Lima.
